Cindy encourages succulent designers to repeat colors, textures and shapes within an arrangement. But contrast is another, crucial element of succulent design.

This simple, slate blue ceramic container is a perfect foil for a lot of color. The echeveria on the right, in back, repeats the blue of the pot., as does the Echinopsis spachiana cactus in the middle, with the bright yellow spines and the trailing Sedum reflexum Angelina on the left. The blue cactus with yellow spines inspired Cindy to add the third primary color in the form of a red-tinged Sedum nussbaumerianum - Coppertone Stonecrop. She completed the color wheel with a large Echeveria Black Prince, contrasted with the bright white Senecio haworthii.

Despite so many colors (blue, yellow, red, black and white) and a wide number of textures, Cindy created a cohesive arrangement that is exciting rather than chaotic.
